Simple Situation Layout

Layouts don’t have to be complicated.   Much information can be arrived at using few cards. Sometimes we just want to know where we are at and really have no question in mind.  The Simple Situation layout requires on 5 cards.  The Lady if you are a female and the Gentleman if you are a male, provided you are using one of the Lenormand style cards.

This layout works with the Tarot as well.  Just pull out a card that resonates with you to represent yourself and place it in the middle.  Follow the diagram below.

1. Past- an influence that just happened.

The Rider card brings news, messages and announcements.  Since it falls in the past the person heard something just recently, maybe even the day before doing the reading.  At this point it cannot be determined if this message is positive or negative.  When you study card 2 in the Now spot you will have a better idea.

2. Now- in the present.  It can reveal what is going on currently.

The Anchor card often represents one’s job or career.  It will also lend a supportive influence to card #1, the Rider and only because it is positive in nature.  It is very clear the person received news around a situation closely connected to work.

3. & 4. Future – these two cards describe what’s coming up, in the next few weeks.  The top future card is linked to the past.  It is similar to the result.  The bottom future card is linked to the Now card.  It will give you an overall outcome.

The top future card is the Birds.  When you hook this card up with the Rider (past card), it will suggest news that creates worry and nervous tension.  The bottom future card is the Scythe. The news that came in regarding the job or some form of security (anchor) has an unwanted ending for the most part.   There is a severance involved, it can be the loss of a job or a completion of a contract.

The Scythe card is always a warning to prepare yourself for some swift action.  It does have positive meanings as well.  Maybe the person is unhappy at their workplace and this situation comes as a relief.  In that aspect, it will suggest the end of worries caused by news around the job.

The Birds card is also a “time” card.  It means within “2″.  Whatever this situation is, it will come to pass with 2 weeks or 2 months tops.

The above interpretation is very basic but it gives a rather direct message.  Other information can be determined by these cards.  If you did have a specific question, then you would revolve the cards around the nature of the question.  It may not involve work, it could involve someone’s well being or a relationship.

Lenormand in “simple situation layout”

I asked the same question “what is it I need to know about the next 2 weeks” using the French Cartomancy Lenormand deck. Usually all card systems work together.

I did this layout after asking the Hanged Man Tarot for guidance. Take a look at the Lady card (me), she is looking right at the CLOUD card and has her back on the SUN card. Interesting, eh. Wonder if my perspective already changed?

PAST, SUN-positive
The theme of the question is about general outlook on life, a happy approach.

NOW, LETTER-neutral & CLOUDS-negative
Here we have a bit more detail. A form of communication or message is a factor, which might cause some annoyances and a shift in attitude or direction of a situation.

FUTURE, STARS-positive
This is a card of wishful thinking to some degree and the fulfillment of something important. Because the CLOUDS card is above the STARS- it points to a wish connected to a man, King of Clubs.

LETTER & CLOUDS suggest some communication that will happen within a short period of time that could be unsettling. Usually when the CLOUDS are beside the significator/querent card (lady or gentleman) the person is worried about something. A general overcast feeling. The King of Clubs is facing the Lady, and that means it is the lighter side of the clouds (overcast feeling will pass quickly). However, the bottom of the CLOUDS card which is the darkness is above the STARS card casting a cloudy influence over a wish or to something of importance.

In brief summary, this reading is very similar to the one done with the Beidermeier deck. And the gist of the reading is the same too with the exception that we got a bit more information LETTER & KING OF CLUBS.

Another meaning of the CLOUDS & STARS is feeling under the weather as in dizzy. How would the HANGED MAN reading tie into all of this. Well, if it is about taking a risk or facing a fear- pursuing ones dreams (STARS) is a risk and the CLOUDS can be fears, when we have one of those days were we cannot see the bright side of things.

To demonstrate the “simple situation layout” using the Biedermeier Aufshchlagkarten by PIATNIK (32 of the cards are identical to the Gipsy Zigeuner Wahrsagekarten & similar to the Art Deco fortune telling cards) I asked the question-

What is it I should know about the next 2 weeks.

SITUATION spot
CONSTANCY – positive card
This card tells me that I am thinking about things that are pretty much routine (no specific question asked) and have a sense of “sameness”. It is a card about a continuous flow of events.

NOW -
MERRIMENT-positive card, THIEF-negative card
Two cards of opposition. Although there is a moderate sense of happiness (MERRIMENT)- the THIEF card points to stolen happiness in this case. Perhaps a misplaced trust that things of a routine nature (a general question) are NOT as unchanging as I think they are. The THIEF card got me thinking that the happiness and joy depicted by the MERRIMENT card will be of a short nature and by the end of the two weeks something will come up to “rock the boat”.

OUTCOME spot
ENEMY- negative card
Oh lovely, this card points to an unexpected and unforeseen turn of events. It could be news or information that will definitely weaken the positive meanings of CONSTANCY & MERRIMENT.

The ENEMY card is a warning no matter which way you look at it. Comparing the THIEF card and the ENEMY card in combination, the suggestion here is very negative, in reference to the CONSTANCY & MERRIMENT cards because the indication of those two cards is of being in a steady good mood. The two negative cards send the message that the steady good mood will change due to a circumstance that comes “out of the blue”.

The ENEMY card can actually be a person that “steals” THIEF the happiness MERRIMENT and continuity CONSTANCY of the ways things are right now. I am reading these cards more in a figurative way because that is my gut feeling on them.

One more observation, the SWEETHEART lady is looking at towards CONSTANCY & MERRIMENT, she has her back turned on the THIEF & ENEMY cards.

Both the MERRIMENT & THIEF cards are important in the NOW spot. The fact that the SWEETHEART is facing away from the THIEF card suggests something is definitely going on simultaneously that she (me) is not aware of. I had to stop and think about this for awhile and now that I have, I will have meditate on the TAROT HANGED MAN to gain more insight.

There are some very good questions to ask myself.
And you should do the same if you try this “simple situation layout” especially if the cards are totally opposite or contradictory. Sometimes we see life in one way, from one perspective and miss the totality of what is going on around us.

Am I not seeing something? Is my back turned on some reality of a situation? Will I be caught “off guard”? What’s going on behind my back? Is someone stealing something from me, taking it without my permission? Have I misplaced my trust? Do I smell a rat? Does someone not really want me to be happy? Why will my serenity be disturbed?

Because I have done this layout today, I will now pay attention to what is going on around me because I do have a few projects on the go and a few situations where I am waiting for answers. The depiction in the cards suggests “don’t get you hopes up too high”.

Time will tell, as in 2 weeks of time and that will be May 20th. NOW I AM REALLY CURIOUS.

When you have a specific question you want answered, try this “simple situation” layout.

Step 1- remove your card from the deck.
If you are a female, Lenormand Lady or Zigeuner, Art Deco, Beidermeier, Sweetheart
If you are a male, Lenormand gentleman or Zigeuner, Art Deco, Beidermeier, Lover

Step 2- place it in the YOU spot.
Step 3- shuffle the cards, and think of your question, this layout is good for specific questions although a general will work OK
Step 4- spread the cards in a fan face down
Step 5- pick one card place it in the SITUATION SPOT
Step 6- pick another card place it in the NOW SPOT & pick another card and place it in the NOW SPOT.

TIP- you can put the cards in step 6 in either of the NOW SPOTS, doesn’t matter which is first.

Step 7- select one more card and place it in the OUTCOME SPOT.

OK you are done. Look at the cards and start blending the meanings. I will include an actual reading using this “simple situation layout”, a little later.
