Scythe & Cross duo predict death
Reading done in 2006
I was reviewing some of my readings when I came across these particular cards in one of my files. The 4 Lenormand cards in the image are situated in the very bottom of the last 2 columns of the full board (36) layout.
At the time of this reading I was away on a trip some 3,000 miles from my home. (lady & ship) The ship has a dual role here because I was about to travel back to where I live within a few days of this reading. The last column took almost 3 months before it materialized fully.
Shortly after I got home I did receive news a dear friend of mine who had been admitted to the hospital and was in pallative care. The SCYTHE was this shocking news. Her condition was terminal (CROSS).
The duo of the SCYTHE & CROSS foretold the death which followed.
The SHIP & CROSS could be translated to the movement towards the end of life (in this case).

.Sometimes when you want to see the circumstances around a person you could take the significator card that represents them and place it in the YOU spot (X). There is a universal understanding that cards should not be done specifically for a person who is not present unless they request the reading. But we all cheat at times, and go ahead by doing the reading anyways. However, if a full board reading is done we still can find out about other people who have not given approval. I guess it’s all up to you living by your own code of ethics.
PAST. sun, ship, house – In the passing days or weeks X would have had success (sun) which lead to the movement (ship) or increase in business. Due to this, X’s home situation is in order and the cards show X being busy. The coming and going of situations involving the home.
NOW. heart, gentleman, lady- X is a man who generally has a positive disposition (sun+heart). He is thinking about a relationship at this time (heart card is above him). X will be in touch with T. regarding some things belonging in or from the past (lady card is beneath him). There would be a discussion or some sort of communication that should happen. The cards show they are or could still be friends (gentleman, lady are joined by the dog card).
IMMEDIATE. This time frame can be determined ahead of time. It can be a few days or a few weeks, it depends on the person’s state of mind at the time of the shuffling. Bouquet, dog, key- some information will be coming from the queen of spades (usually a darker female and not necessarily older as depicted in traditional meanings). She can be a girlfriend (bouquet+dog). Out of a friendship or desire to be a good friend, a solution or answer will come to T. The key opens doors to further opportunities for discussion.
SOON. This spot’s time frame can be adjusted as well. It can be within 1 week or 1 month (or longer) Mountain, snake, lily – There is some frustration or obstacles coming in the next few weeks. There are 2 queens in the layout (bouquet,snake), one of the meanings for this duo is that a tempting invitation or offer will be made known. Traditionally snake+lily indicates a romantic attraction or lingering feelings.
Many times readers forget to factor the intellectual aspects of the snake card.
And other problems shown by the mountain card will be figured out and in the end harmony (lily) prevails.
The bottom row tells me that T. will have better security (key) with a more mature male (lily) even though this reading is geared towards X. But she is represented by the lady card and if you follow that row to the end -those cards belong to her as well. This row holds 2 Kings suggesting an agreement or settling of a dilemma.
No doubt there are several other ways to analyze this reading and my interpretation is merely a brief overview. This reading is an example of possible delineations using the Lenormand.

First of all if you are doing the Simple layout your Significator card, Lady or Gentleman should be in the ‘YOU’ spot as shown on the diagram. I am a great believer in the fact that the cards are shuffled in the way that they are suppose to be regardless of instructions.
In this case there is no Significator card. It is unclear to me who this reading is for- that was not stated. I presume it is for Sufiyo since the comment starts with “i got”. But the “i got” could be for someone else.
The suggestions below are basic meanings and offered for educational and entertainment purposes.
The spot reserved for the Significator holds a wonderful positive card #31 Sun and I will use this card as the focus for this reading, namely one’s happiness.

The coffin card is the important one in the past column. It suggests a conclusion or ending of a situation which was brought on rather abruptly (scythe). As a result a financial situation (fish) has become important. Remember this is only one way to read the Lenormand. It also depends which deck is used. Just because the Lenormand are similar, it does not mean it is always an exact fit. Cards have their own personalities and they change somewhat when associated with other cards. A fair haired man depicted by the Fish card is very much involved in this situation of the recent past.

The challenging time of the coffin/scythe are nearly over. It is in the finalization period (cross) at the current time. Happiness is around the corner and certain issues & situations will be a thing of the past once and for all. A financial situation (fish) will improve & grow. (bouquet) If we are talking about a fair haired man (fish), then he will once again be in a position of prominence.

The Ship suggests movement & growth (tree) in regards to the NOW card. Sometimes Ship + House means a change of location or residence. It looks like it is a good way to go. The Anchor indicates stability in things to come.
The Scythe, Coffin and Cross are in the passing stages- whatever the hardship was -it will no longer be.

.I withdrew the LADY 29. Hölgy card from the French Cartomancy Lenormand deck and used it as the Significator card to represent the female in this reading. The Celtic cross will be a brief overview of how one can read the Lenormand in these designated positions traditionally belonging to the Tarot.
The question was general – “what is it I should know about the next 3 months?”
1. COVERS HER card- FISH/KING DIAMONDS. 34. HalThis female is shown to be very concerned about her financial situation. The FISH card is also a lighter haired male that may be involved to some degree with her current dilemma.[Nov 23 update: lighter haired man is involved]
2. CROSSING HER card- TOWER 19. Torony – influence card of opportunity or challenge.Here we have 3 possibilities. The first one is involving her finances. FISH & TOWER = can suggest a professional building such as a bank or lending institution. The second possible meaning is that there could be a hospital or medical clinic connected to a male that is close to her or on her mind. The third potential meaning is that alcohol/drugs could be an issue around a male of that coloring, usually someone older than 35 years. A possible concern for the female.[Nov 23 update: lighter haired man over 35 + is hospitalized Nov 16/07]
3. BENEATH HER card- BOOK. 26. Könyv. A situation or information that is not fully revealed at the time of the reading. Unfoldment of this entire situation stems from the fact that there is a lack of sufficient money or lack of conclusive medical findings.[Nov 23 update: the lack of information involved a pending health condition-heart attack which occurred Nov 16th]
4. BEHIND HER card- KEY. 33. Kulcs. Even though this influence or situation is in the process of passing it is still currently active. The obvious meaning is to open or close. In this case there is an opening of information which will lead to a decision or path to some sort of success in resolving whatever it is concerning the female. At this point it could be 1 of 3 things, all of them or something else that has not been delineated yet because I am going step by step in this interpretation.
5. ABOVE HER card -RIDER. 1. Lovag. This cards strongly points to information that is on its way or the further development taking the natural process of manifestation. Yes there will be the arrival news. Since this spot can represent a possible outcome, I would want to read it as a for sure situation, only because the energy of the Rider is already in motion.[Nov 23 update: news arrives about a heart attack]
6. BEFORE HER card- SCYTHE/JACK DIAMONDS. 10. Kasza. Within the next few weeks this female will deal with some upsetting and startling news or situation. The Scythe card is a powerful energy which severs or eliminates. This can be positive or negative. So far we know that the female in question has a pending disruption coming up with regards to the FISH card and all the possible meanings of that card. As a people card, there could be the involvement of a young man as well – since it is a diamond, it would represent finances as well. However it can mean ones well being.[Nov 23 update- reading was done Oct 23 and within 3 weeks the startling news comes, the young man is the son of female involved]
[She did not divulge any concerns to me and kept her question simple. I bet though it was in the back of her mind.]In combination the Scythe+FISH= potential financial chaos and problems+FISH/KING DIAMONDS= a painful circumstance around the male represented by this card+TOWER= a serious problem involving people in authority or professionals+BOOK= important consequences or results+KEY= don’t count on the current apparent stability of a situation. No matter which way you combine the Scythe card it looks like the indications are unpleasant & provoking.[UPDATE- Dec 8th- fair haired man suffers a stroke, a painful circumstance involving a serious problem with people in authority or professionals (doctors/nurses/specialists) -unpleasant, provoking]
7. HER ATTITUDE card- CLOVER. 2. Négylevelű lóhere. She has an unrealistic approach right now. It may be optimistic but it definitely will not continue that way for very long. The female is in for a rude awakening.[Nov 23 update: the rude awakening is the serious condition of the man 35+]
8. ENVIRONMENT/EXTERNAL INFLUENCE card- BOUQUET/QUEEN SPADES. 9. Virágcsokor. If you look at the layout the Queen Spades and Jack Diamonds are looking towards each other. This combo indicates that the female is dealing with an aggressive older woman in her environment or at least her negative influence. Because of the nature of the entire theme of the reading the positive meanings of the BOUQUET card are lessened.[Nov 23 update: the aggressive female is the partner of the male 35+]
9. HOPES/FEARS card- CHILD/JACK SPADES. 13. Gyermek. This spot can also provide immediate advice. The CHILD card reflects her fears of a situation that is not fully mature yet. When you tie the CHILD card with the BOUQUET/QUEEN SPADES there is evidence that the Queen is an upsetting/domineering mother figure involved. If this comes to be true, we would have to take a second look at the FISH/KING DIAMONDS card- it could be a father or partner of the Queen.[Nov 23 update: the fair haired man 35+ is the father of the child]
1 0. OUTCOME card- MOON. 32. Hold. This last card would confirm the emotional links between the people cards. The Moon card can be tied into the sign Cancer. In Astrology the moon rules Cancer and represents the 4th house- the home and one of the parents, usually a mother. The MOON card is about fluctuating feelings, sensitivities and memories. Within this card lies the hint of a time frame -28 days. Intuition is important- to following hunches, dreams & those gut feelings you get from time to time. Moods or a depressive state of mind are possibilities as a result of the influence of the SCYTHE combinations. Some Lenormand Cartomancers assign the meaning of honors to this card. In lieu of the general reading this meaning is not applicable.[UPDATE: Dec 8th- one of the side effects of the Stroke was partial loss of memory, depression]
The last card does not give a direct answer but it does help to blend the cards of the reading. This reading strongly suggests a disruptive family situation that will unfold. The mother or female depicted by the BOUQUET/QUEEN SPADES will experience much anxiety and nervousness by the next full moon cycle. This in turn will affect the female of this reading for some reason. There is a shock or surprise that will have to be dealt with.[Nov 23 update: this reading came to pass within 1 calendar month, tomorrow is the FULL MOON. The female is upset because the news came about a serious heart attack which will require open heart surgery the early part of next week Nov 27? and hopefully NOT on Nov 28/29. The reason being because the Moon is in Leo which rules the heart- not a good time Astrologically to be doing any kind of heart procedure. Statistically it has been proven that when operation occur on parts of the body in which the moon transits there are problems with excessive bleeding - in this case it can be fatal because it involves the heart

[December 1st- the surgery appears to be successful. There was a change midstream in the procedure and the intended triple by pass was not possible- only a double by pass. The patient is recovering rapidly and is looking forward to leaving the hospital some time next week]

I usually read the MOON card as a lunar time card, with 4 weeks or so.
The MOON + RING suggests a profound, deep or important connection or commitment. Being emotionally involved which many people aren’t even though they are in a relationship. Sometimes relationships are just for convenience these days.
The MOON + RING + BOOK – points to some revelations that obviously ended up in the necessity of the RIDER + PATH combination -the decision. If this is a relationship layout the “cards” show that the LADY will get past all this and despite a temporary unhappy state of mind.
Don’t forget to consider that PATH is also the Queen of Diamonds and because she is side by side with the LADY card, it can involve a sister or close girlfriend.

RING + BOOK suggests many things, such as keeping a relationship hush hush for a while. Because these two cards are in the past the LADY has found everything out already as the RIDER is the messenger that induced the choices depicted in the PATH card.

This card behind the LADY suggests that she was involved with some decision making either on her own or through the deliverance of the message of the RIDER. As we see in the last card CROSS -there may be some heavy or serious consequences or results coming up. This does not have to be “so serious”, afterall going for a driver’s licence or writing an examination after you are done a course of study – is under the rulership of the CROSS card.

When the SUN + CROSS fall side by side, it can send a mixed message. The SUN card is a powerfully positive energy card and the CROSS card can be a heavy negative energy card. If these two cards were reversed it would have been better however in this example it suggest that because of the LADY’s basic personality as being outgoing and positive she will be able to cope with some situation coming up -that could test her to the limit.
Not knowing if there was a question at the time of the selection of these cards or if they are random for study purposes -the cards point to a situation or event that is not in the control of the LADY – the only thing she is in control of is how she reacts, responds or handles this.
An individual could spend a lot of time studying & analyzing combinations. If those were my “cards” I would not be concerned at all because the SUN card touches and is in the future (right side) of the line. Even though the line ends with the CROSS all that means is that there is a “period” to the sentence. A “period” is a completion or conclusion.

We already know that there will be some news coming from a male (gentleman + letter). The news looks good (letter + sun).
The short term happiness from the news will end suddenly (sun + scythe). As a result of this “strange” turn of events a drastic change (scythe + stork) will take place.
update sept 21- there was a sudden ending in a joint project several weeks later
In the line of the gentleman we see fox, ring, anchor.
fox + ring = can indicate a betrayal of a promise or commitment. It can also mean a job with a future as the anchor card is on the right side of the ring card

ring + scythe = that’s a toughie, breaking up or complete severing of ties. I would have to say that in this case I want to use the Queen of Cups for this definition. News around another female with a broken relationship. Work related.
update: this turned out to be a severing of ties and it was work related as well
The clouds male will turn out to be a friend (dog) but he will have his own problems (dark side of clouds). There is much she doesn’t know about him, the fact that he has a family (lily), probably married (ring) and/or going through a divorce (ring + scythe)
update sept 21st: how eerie is that? There was a male that was new to her and yes she found out that he was spoken for as in committed relationship.
coffin - the uncovered part faces the moon card, the suggestion is that the will be a sudden new turn of events that will put her in a situation where she will meet up with a male that will help her to fulfill most of her wishes (lily + stars)
Not all Kings mean men that she will meet but in her reading the feel around the other cards pointed to actual people.
The ring square of cards (above, below, beside) are surrounded by mostly good and positive cards except the scythe. If you take the scythe card to be positive then a “cleaning up” will occur before the change (stork) comes. It will be quick.
As in most readings I apply one card to several adjoining cards and use different aspects of the meaning attributed to those cards. Intuition or gut feeling will let you know if it sits comfortably with what you are saying.

The partial layout below is a full 36 card reading done with the Madame Lenormand French Cartomancy Deck
The seeker of the cards is a female. She is going through some tough times and can’t seem to be making the right choices (so she thinks) and is experiencing difficulty in sleeping due to her deep concern about her situation. There is NO significant male in her life such as a boyfriend, husband, common law, etc.
lady + birds = shows the worries around this female.
lady + birds + cross = the grave concerns around the female are affecting her well being (tree)
lady + heart = she thinks about having a loving relationship.
Heart is in the vertical column falling in the future spot. The suggestion is that an emotional situation is before her that will pull her heart string. In this case, the Heart does represent a tortured mind (+whip) due to excessive worry (birds + whip)
birds + cross = indicates a situation already around her and that is of the utmost importance. Her thoughts (birds) are very negative to the point of giving up (cross)
cross + tree = shows that her well being (emotional health) is in jeopardy
cross + tree = can also indicate that unless there is a stop put to these worries (birds) she will develop severe headaches (whip + tree)
This was confirmed and the fact that there were so many restless nights she started to get headaches.
update sept 21st- this person developed vertigo sometimes induced by stress
heart + coffin = as there is no romantic relationship, these cards do not apply as far as a relationship that ends. In her case, it strongly suggest that she feels “empty” and “void” emotionally (moon)
The gentleman card appears in her near future -this will represent someone that will be involved in her life but not necessarily in a romantic capacity, it may be a friend or a male connected to a job (fox in the next column)
As things stand she is not aware of any male connected to work.
gentleman + letter = means that correspondence or a message comes from this male and that (coffin) there is some sort of completion or a retreat of something important to her (heart + coffin)
update: ditto, a letter of rejection after leading her on to think he was available
whip + gentleman = points to several conversation with this male about something she holds dear in her heart
gentleman + fox = this man could be unreliable or untrustworthy or if you take the “fox” to mean a work situation then there will be many talks (whip) about some project
update sept 21st: this is connection to the previous line as well and yes he turned out to be untrustworthy -work related
The card beneath the fox can’t be seen in the image but it is #31 the sun.
letter + sun = shows some good and promising news coming from this male (gentleman)
The fact the lady + heart + gentleman all touch, this can be someone from her past that she had long forgotten (heart +coffin) about. He may resurface again. Gentleman and the moon card suggests she may very well know this man. She could not relate to this suggestion.
update sept 21st- this man was not directly connected to her past but he was the exhusband of a former supervisor of hers at another job way into the past years
There are two cards that mean “2″, both the birds and the whip cards. I felt that there is an issue with “time“, like not enough time or extended time or needing more time. How that fits in to the theme of the cards is not certain yet with the exception of that perhaps she needs to give herself more time to eventually see the rays of the sun-card.
I left the top row of this reading out from the first part of the analysis on purpose. I could see immediately why the female couldn’t sleep and what these “rough times” were. Now I will include it to shed some more light on the issues involved with this female.
In the top row you see FISH, PATH, KEY, CLOUDS
fish + lady = the fish card above the lady shows that she is preoccupied with money, this is weighing heavily on her. We already ruled out the fact about the lack of a male -we don’t use the King the diamonds.
path + heart = the female has a decision to make real soon involving her finances and her emotional state (birds + heart) because of them.
key + coffin = the solution to her issues will come in the form of a major transition and she needs to get out of her emotional state (heart + coffin). In other words, she need to change her attitude and start fresh with everything
The gentleman card is in this vertical column. Part of her problem solving will come from discussions with “some” male (whip + gentleman), which she is not totally aware of or maybe can’t think off hand who it is. This sometimes happens in readings, the seeker of the cards blanks out because they are nervous or too focused on the entire card reading process.
update: sept 21st this male turned out to be a male acquaintance which she viewed casually but he was an excellent conversationalist.
key + clouds = the answer could also come from a King of Clubs type of person. This combo also means stormy time coming up with emotions (clouds + moon). The lighter side of the cards face the key-card, so this means that the emotional roller coaster will pass
The cloud card falls in the vertical column with the fox card. This can point to the return (moon-memories,past) of someone that “was” work connected somehow.
Summary: The female in question is experiencing financial difficulties that are creating stress on an emotional level. She is unable to rest sufficiently because of this. She faces a significant change in direction and must decide with all her heart that she will get through this and start rebuilding her financial house. It appears as though she will be linked emotionally with 2 different men in a very short time. I felt that both men where from her past. I saw that she just wanted to escape and run away from everything ( fish, path)
The female has a few hurdles to get through for the next few weeks. Because the sun card fell in the future (to her right) there is hope for happiness. Unfortunately it will be short lived because the scythe card follows the sun card (not shown in image)

Prediction comes to pass
The interpretation I am going to talk about is from an actual reading done.
My opening statement for the E-reading was as follows: “The cards that I will interpret were selected August 7th, a little over 2 weeks ago. Some things may have happened.”
This is what I stated “Information about a letter related to health is shared with you, the findings are not positive. There is a change that is found in a loosely monitored condition. Treatments will be suggested. Cards show that you are very worried about this and the person involved is close to you. A close female for sure.“
“Disturbances on a family level, news of a heart attack- fluid build up/pneumonia in the lungs. This person will pass on, attendance at a funeral. The card that showed up represents an emotional link, as in family member.”

The Carreras Fortune Telling Cards (French Cartomancy deck)
I was informed yesterday from the person that had this reading done last year of this news of a death which occurred on May 31/07, the funeral is June 4/07, the emotional link was a close member of the family. At this point I am not sure of cause of death – and it does not matter.
Notice that these 2 vertical lines are the last ones in the full layout. The approximate time for the manifestation of this interpretation took about 9 months.

Question asked by my daughter about getting a job.
This is my interpretation of coffin, stork, house cards:
The Small Lenormand by B.P. Grimaud 1976
A sudden change is still shown for the daughter within the 2-3 week time frame which would be approximately the last week in May ‘07.
The ending (coffin) I was picking up on was the actual elimination of any hope for the T***** job, which she had her heart set on, I felt it would be another company (stork, house)

A job offer did come in. Starting date May 28th and it was another company stork + house.
This position requires that she will travel lots (coffin + house= away from home)
Looking deeper at the card meanings
This layout and step by step interpretation is a fantastic study case because it not only has the analysis but also the facts of what happened- a great way to judge the cards as far as accuracy!

THIS IS THE ACTUAL RESULT = The lady had a lengthy discussion involving solutions (key)to her current dilemma with a man that was work related (clouds, King of Clubs + anchor)
4 days later she received news (rider) from a man (king of clubs) that was in a work situation (anchor). As it turned out, the final discussion, chit chat (birds) ending on a her receiving upsetting or shocking news (birds + scythe). Not shocking as in startling but shocking because it was totally not expected.
Scythe + rider =delivery of news that either abruptly ends any hope of continuance
Looking back at that entire layout it materialized with high accuracy within 1 week. I think the reason for this is because the lady put all her energy into some goal or wish she was absorbed with.

It was NOT T*****, the company sent her an Email today and decided to go with another applicant.
Now that is 2 endings (of hope for jobs she applied to). The stork + house are very strong and positive cards. Maybe there is a hint or clue within those 2 cards. As we know the cards tell us things we usually don’t know consciously.
stork + house = many readers interpret this duo as a change of residence and I do too but since the question was about work companies that were applied to (business related questions) I interpreted the meaning as another company. You take certain aspects of the cards and modify them to fit the question if there is a question involved.
-house cards holds promise for stability even though there was a termination (coffin) inducing change (stork).
-change will still happen because the stork is after the coffin card.
stork + coffin = no change or any change comes to a final ending. When you receive a rejection for a job position it is a DEATH(coffin), an ending for that position you applied for.

NEWS (rider) DID COME BUT IT WAS NOT EXCELLENT NEWS, SHE GOT AN EMAIL May 16th SAYING “NO” TO THE JOB SHE WAS ASKING ABOUT.
In the first 3 cards there is absolutely no evidence of a NO outcome to the question, but in the clarification 3 cards it was obvious.
SHE DID GET AN INTERVIEW BY ANOTHER COMPANY, WHICH REQUIRED HER TO TRAVEL (ship)TO K**** AND THERE WAS A MAN (rider)INVOLVED (THE INTERVIEWER)

OK the “ending” interpretation was correct, but it was not immediately tied into as meaning “NO”.
A sudden change is still shown for the daughter within the 2-3 week time frame which would be approximately the last week in May ’07.
Sept 21/07 update: there was a sudden change on May 25th when the E-letter came with an offer of a job for a position she thought she had no hope in getting.
The ending (coffin) I was picking up on was the actual elimination of any hope for the T***** job, which she had her heart set on, I felt it would be another company (stork, house)
Sept 21/07 update: yes it was another company and she is still with the company currently. And yes she did have to travel to another city for the interview as well. Interestingly, her job involves extensive travel.

I just finished interpreting this layout for a middle aged male. Before I begin summarizing the major situations in this reading, I need to really meditate of some of those cards surrounding the GENTLEMAN card because what I see, is not something I even want to mention. LOL. What if I am totally off the mark??
How will I know if I am accurate – this middle aged man will not confide such a thing to me- I know that for sure.
I want to mention one thing though, sometimes people have problems in a relationship/marriage and they do not recognize it as a problem, and think it is just the normal way of communicating.
There is great stress between this middle aged man and his lady/wife. Notice that the WHIP card is between them on a diagonal line. Vertical Rows 2, 3, 4. Without a doubt they are fighting or having some heated discussion about something going on just recently.
The WHIP and SCYTHE point to some brutal conversation filled with anger.
Notice the PATH card (QUEEN OF DIAMONDS) right next to the right of the gentleman card.
Yes, a decision awaits him but it could also be another married or committed woman (PATH & RING). Or you can read this as, the gentleman is married (ring) or belongs in a relationship, however the tower card sometimes depicts loneliness despite one’s connection in a relationship whether they are married, living together or going steady.
More times than not RING & TOWER point to separation, or taking separate paths which minimizes (MICE) the strength of the relationship in question.
These days relationships take on whole new meanings. Such as, together but living apart.
When you present this type of information to the person getting the reading- they will not always admit they are having problems, to you or to themselves for that matter. But it is shown in the cards.
Just out of curiosity when you see someone having an extra-marital affair whether it is physical or not- DO YOU MENTION IT?? This becomes a real challenge because sometimes people are emotionally connected and have not had closure for one reason or another and EVEN though they are not together- the emotional link can show up in the card combinations.
